Caring for Pre School Children
Children can attend Maple Lodge Nursery through the Government funded places for children over 3 years of age. Children become eligible for this funding the term after their 3rd birthday. They then become entitled to 15 hours of funded childcare per week during term time. This must be taken over a minimum of 3 days.
The pre-school children are located on the first floor and their playroom can take 23 children supported by 3 staff members at any one time. The structure of the day allows for small group work alongside a member of staff and free play in which the children are encouraged to use their imaginations.
In these groups the focus for learning and development shifts to build upon the prime areas of learning, the childs own skills and abilities are developed in the specific areas of learning. Children in these groups are prepared for the transition to school or nursery school.
The nursery aims to promote self help skills and independence. Children are given more choice of activities and play often follows the childs own interests as they become confident in communicating what they like doing.
